If there’s a new facial tool you have your eye on, consider me your guinea pig. I’m so into skincare tools at the moment. One reason for this is because they seem to be popping up all over the place—and I have shiny object syndrome. The other reason is because every time I’ve used one, I’ve really seen a difference in my skin. For example, I tried the CurrentBody LED Face Mask for 30 days and saw a difference in my overall skin tone and fine lines. And this is not an isolated incident.

The latest? I gave the trending NuFACE Trinity a whirl and I’m here to report on the results—but first, let me get to some of your NuFACE burning questions.

What the heck is NuFACE and what does it do?

NuFACE is a microcurrent facial tool that improves muscle tone and contour in face and neck, improves local circulation, firms, lifts and tightens the skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and more.

How does microcurrent work?

I had no idea what microcurrent was until I looked it up. In a nutshell, microcurrent technology uses low-level electrical currents (meant to mimic your body’s natural electrical signal) to stimulate the muscles and tissues. Basically, when your facial muscles contract and release it helps make them stronger and lifted over time. Microcurrent also improves circulation and encourages the production of collagen and elastin—essential proteins for maintaining the skin’s elasticity and firmness.

What are the benefits of facial microcurrent?

Benefits of facial microcurrent include:

  • Muscle stimulation to increase tone and give a lifted appearance
  • Encourages collagen production to reduce fine lines
  • Improves circulation for healthier complexion
  • Reduces swelling and inflammation

Is NuFACE safe?

All NuFACE devices and gels are FDA cleared. The brand notes that NuFACE devices need to be used with the conductive gel otherwise they will cause tingling, stinging and discomfort.

Is NuFACE hard to use? How to work NuFACE…

Between you and me, I am THE WORST at reading directions. So of course I googled “how to” + “video” + “NuFACE” and that saved the day. This video walks you through how to administer this treatment. I followed this to a T and saw results—10 out of 10 recommend doing the same.

Can you feel NuFACE working?

I was really nervous about this hurting or feeling uncomfortable. But do not fret like I did! I honestly could not feel a thing to the point where when I first used this device, I wondered if it was even on. The only place I could feel anything was when I reached my hairline. Apparently hair is a conductor of microcurrent too and it felt like my hairline hairs were getting zapped. To avoid this, wear a headband or a hair wrap to separate hair from face before treatment.

In addition, my face did feel a little hot and tingly after treatment—not in a painful or uncomfortable way but in a way where it felt like it had just been worked on.

When to use NuFACE in your skincare routine?

In my opinion, I would recommend doing this in the morning before applying any skincare. This way you get the aesthetic benefits of the lift to start out your day. Plus it’s recommended to use NuFACE with their included gel conductor only and not any other oils or moisturizers. So ideally this would happen before I do my morning skincare routine.

How long does it take for NuFACE to work?

The NuFACE Trinity works almost instantaneously. I saw results the first time I used it. It took about 5-8 minutes to do one side of my face.

How long do the effects of NuFACE results last? (Does NuFACE last long term?)

I didn’t know the answer to this so I checked in with the brand and this is what they had to say. “Results of one treatment last 1-3 days; however it depends on the elasticity of the individual’s skin. The more frequent you use this device the more long lasting results will be. It is essentially like a workout for your face. The more the muscles are stimulated the more toned they will look however, we recommend not to use this more than 5 times per week.”

What happens if you stop using NuFACE?

The brand continues, “Eventually the muscles will return to their original state so being consistent a few times per week is key.”

Does NuFace work on…

After using NuFACE, I personally saw a visible lift in my cheeks, my brows and an opening of my eyes. However maybe you are wondering if NuFACE works on other parts of the face and body. I also wondered this so I checked back in with the brand to get the 411!

Does NuFACE work on the neck?

“This can safely be used on the neck but avoid the thyroid gland near the center.”

Does NuFACE work on jowls?

“Yes you should see good results from jowls!”

Does NuFACE work on under eye bags?

“Yes but we recommend using the ELE head attachment which goes on top of the NuFACE Trinity device. This is a more targeted approach to smaller areas to ensure it is fully safe.”

Does NuFACE work for double chin?

“Yes, you will see a lifting/toning effect but each person is different. One might see a huge difference on the chin where one might see a better difference on their cheek…”

Does NuFACE work on forehead wrinkles?

“Yes, NuFACE works to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, with the NuFACE Trinity you have the option to use the wrinkle head attachment which is an LED head that uses red light to increase collagen product to further reduce the appearance of wrinkles.”

Does NuFACE work with Botox?

“This is safe to use on botox but wait 7- 14 days at least for it to set before using the device.”

Does NuFACE work without gel?

We all want a way around buying another product but the reality is, this technology needs a conductive gel to carry the microcurrent into the body. The brand recommends using their gel specifically. Some people ask if NuFACE works with aloe vera but the brand also discourages this. I did ask around on IG for alternatives and (outside one brand telling me they would make me one, lol) I didn’t really get a viable option. Note that oils will not work to conduct the current.

I will add that the brand recommends wiping the excess gel off the face after using NuFACE Trinity—essentially leaving on any remaining product so your body gets the benefit of the hyaluronic acid. I tried doing that and I didn’t like it because the leftover gel pills creating an unwanted texture on my skin.

Who should not use NuFACE?

The brand also weighed in here explaining, “Anyone under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, who has electrical implants (like pacemaker), or who has seizures or cancer should not use the NuFACE Trinity.”

Is NuFACE worth it?

In my opinion I think NuFACE is worth it if you are looking for a light, temporary face lift to wake up the face, lift the brows, open up the eyes and contour the cheeks.

Where can you buy NuFACE?

We recommend grabbing NuFACE from CurrentBody where you can use THENEWKNEW code to get this device for $200 from $350!

Does NuFACE go on sale?

The NuFACE rarely goes on sale but lucky for you, you can score it at CurrentBody for less with code THENEWKNEW.

NuFACE Results (before + after pics)

The last and probably most common question out there is, Does NuFACE work? And, does NuFACE deliver results? Well, let’s take a look at my before and after pics and you can decide for yourself!

NuFACE recommends using this device 5 times a week. I’ve used the NuFACE exactly one time and immediately saw visible results.

Here’s what other people reported:

  • 85% of users experienced improved facial contour
  • 80% of users reported smoother skin
  • 77% of users reported improved facial tone
A close up of a woman's face after using the NuFACE Trinity.
Treated (right side) and untreated (left side) of my face after using NuFACE Trinity.

You can see the apple of my cheek on the right (treated) is higher and more plump than the non-treated cheek on the left.

The before and after of a woman who used microcurrent facial device.

This side by side comparison shows that my right eyebrow (treated) is now as high as my left eyebrow (untreated) which is normally much higher naturally. You can also see that my right (treated) eye is much more open. This was super interesting to me because I have hooded eyelids and I think it actually made them…less hooded 🤯.

I will also add (which you can not tell from these pics) that I could actually feel a difference in my face. It felt higher and more pulled up. I didn’t expect that! This feeling did not last all day however which is why NuFACE recommends using this tool consistently overtime for best results. More specifically, the brand recommends using this 5 times per week for the first 60 days and then once desired results are achieved, just as needed, a few times a week.

Overall
4

Pros

Lightweight and easy to handle

Easy to administer (I like following this video tutorial)

Does not hurt or zap the face

Relatively fast with entire treatment taking about 15 minutes

I saw immediate results

What you can’t see is I could actually feel the results too (face actually felt higher!)

Gel conductor is easy to use and does not dry up during treatment

Cons

15 minutes is fast but I wish it was faster

Single use results last 1-3 days and you need to be consistent to see long term results

Need to use this device with a gel conductor that you will have to buy on repeat

You will feel it along your hairline as hair is also a microcurrent conductor

Hi, I’m so glad you did this review because I also love all the tools. Quick question because I am very interested in this one, but when you mentioned feeling a zing when it gets near your hairline, does that also happen when it is near your eyebrows? Clearly I’m a big baby about discomfort! 🙂

I’m a baby when it comes to discomfort too! I didn’t feel anything around my eyebrows. And also it’s more like a zap than a zing if that helps lol.
