I Tried The CurrentBody LED Face Mask For 30 days (Before and Afters)

February 9, 2024 (updated April 9, 2024) — Written by

Red light therapy works to reduce wrinkles, even skin tone and brighten skin. #facts. So now it’s just about finding which red light therapy tool will give us the biggest bang for our buck. CurrentBody reports their red light mask is 31% more powerful than any other red light mask on the market so I put it to the test. Here are my 30 day before and after pics plus my personal list of pros and cons.

IN THIS POST:

As someone who has been beauty blogging for almost 10 years, I’ve tried my fair share of snake oils. So you can imagine my surprise the very first time I tried red light therapy, and I saw an immediate difference in my skin. After seeing the effects with my own eyes, I was super excited to get my hands on the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask to see if it lived up to the hype.

The short answer? It does. The long answer? (👇Keep reading!👇)

What is a LED face mask and what does it do?

There are several red light face masks on the market but I chose to test the CurrentBody one for two main reasons. It’s FDA cleared and it claims to be 31% more powerful than any other red light mask on the market. So I figured, if I’m going to do this, let’s go to the TOP!

But what does a red light face mask actually do? CurrentBody explains that this mask uses red and near infrared wavelengths to do the following:

  • Improve fine lines and wrinkles
  • Balance skin tone
  • Reduce texture
  • Brighten skin

And if you are curious if these are just loose claims and if red light therapy works in general, let me be the first to say red light therapy IS LEGIT.

And I’m not over here slinging empty claims. The benefits of red light therapy have been cited again and again and again. And the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask is no exception.

Is red light therapy safe?

This mask is FDA cleared which I appreciate because it’s not just the brand saying, “yeah our red light mask is safe to use”—it’s a third party saying, “yeah, their mask is safe to use.”

Can you feel the LED lights working?

Rest assured, there are no zaps or electricity pulses when using this mask. I literally feel nothing when this mask is on my face. I would say the only slightly annoying thing is that the light is pretty bright. Not bright enough that I need to wear protective eyewear but just kind of…THERE.

Is the CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask easy to use?

This mask is practically fool proof and super easy to use. Literally strap it onto your face, relax and wait for the timer to automatically shut off the LED lights. That’s it!

How long does it take to see a difference?

I tried this mask and saw results after 30 days (see below). CurrentBody says you can expect results “within 4 weeks”. But if you check out the reviews, you will see people reporting results as soon as “immediately” and “within a week”—although most of the reviews report after several weeks.

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask results (before + after pics!)

To put it to the test, I used this mask one time a day for 30 days straight and HELLO, it totally delivered. I can see my skin tone has evened out significantly and the fine lines around my eyes appear less pronounced. Can you see that too?

CurrentBody Red Light Mask, Solawave and NuFace compared

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how this mask compares to the Solawave wand or the NuFace Trinity. Fortunately, I’ve tried all three for an extended period of time and I can weigh in with first hand experience.

Overall, the CurrentBody Red Light Mask wins out in my expert opinion and here’s why. It’s the easiest to use and it delivers results. The other two devices also deliver results but you have to be fully engaged the entire time while you are using them. And since I’m trying to live my best lazy girl life, it’s CurrentBody through and through.

I will say however, if you are looking for the most affordable red light treatment that still delivers results, it’s the Solawave wand all the way.

And in that same vein, if you are looking for a tool that will give you a temporary face lift, go with the NuFace Trinity because the CurrentBody red light mask can not do that.

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Face Mask pros + cons

Pros:

  • It only takes 10 minutes.
  • This is a hands free experience and I can veg out or read or stream at the same time.
  • It treats my entire face at the same time and I don’t have to take up more time to work in sections.
  • It has a rechargeable battery so it’s easy to travel with (I took it camping!) and you don’t have to be next to a plug to use it.
  • CurrentBody highlights it’s 31% more powerful than any other mask (the most powerful on the market!).
  • Clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in just 4 weeks.
  • It’s FDA cleared.
  • It’s not just me, this device has over 1,000 five-star reviews.

Cons:

  • This may be another one of those things you buy but never use.
  • You have to use this consistently for best results.
  • The price.

Yes, the CurrentBody LED Mask is worth it

As a seasoned beauty blogger, I am 100% recommending this red light mask. If you are looking for something that works, this is it. If you are looking for something that is super easy to use, this is it. I saw results in just 30 days and I’m not alone because this facial tool has over 1000 five star reviews. Frankly this tool is so good it also made our Best Of Beauty 2023 list.

My only regret is that I didn’t get the face + neck kit because if I’m setting aside the time to do it already, I might as well go all the way in!

If you need to justify the cost, with our code, it’s less than $1 a day for a year so I mean really, how can you afford not to? lol.

What do you think? Will you try red light therapy?

The instructions say to use on a clean, dry face, but I’ve seen some people put on a serum before use. What do you recommend?

I used it without a serum and it worked well.

I do have the older solawave wand but this sounds way more convenient. I was leaning towards face/neck combo too. What did you think of the serum?

I used this without the serum FYI. It worked fine for me and easier clean up too ; )

I have been wanting to try LED light face masks, but I am someone who struggles pretty bad with melasma so I’m always cautious about what could trigger it. Does this mask have any heat to it and do you think it would negatively impact melasma at all? Thank you so much, your blog is always so helpful!

Hi Olivia! There is zero heat to this mask. But I don’t know if it would trigger melasma or not. Side note, we did talk to a holistic esthetician about skin supportive ways to treat melasma if you are interested!
